1. Are the Attorneys available to speak to me?
At Chang & Diamond the goal of our Attorneys is to pick up the phone each time it rings. Our goal is to respond to each phone message or email within 24 hours of its receipt. Typically however, we respond to messages and emails within the hour we receive them.
2. Will I be meeting with an Attorney?
Yes. Typically only Attorneys meet with prospective clients. Only on rare occasion will you meet with a Paralegal.
3. Will an Attorney be at my meeting of creditors?
One of our attorneys will be with you at your original meeting of creditors.
4. How long has the Attorney been practicing law?
Richard Chang and Steve Diamond opened Chang & Diamond in San Diego in 1998. Prior to that, Rich had been practicing law since 1993 and Steve beginning in 1992. Chang & Diamond has been a bankruptcy law firm from the beginning.
5. What percentage of the practice is devoted to bankruptcy?
100% of our practice is bankruptcy. Allowing us to focus solely on bankruptcy allow us to deliver the highest quality service to our clients.
6. What are the fees? What exactly do those fees include exactly?
The attorneys fees depend on the nature and complexity of your bankruptcy. We will determine what your fees are during the initial consultation. We will discuss all aspects of your bankruptcy fees, including payment arrangements. We are the only firm that will actually WORK on your case while you make payments to us. This means we will prepare and, in most cases, file your case while you are making payments to us. Don't be mislead by "Zero Money Down". Confirm with the potential Attorney that work will begin on your case immediately upon signing your contract.
7. What is a realistic time frame for my case to be filed? What is the average time frame to receive a discharge?
A bankruptcy can be filed in as little as a day in case of an emergency. Typically, it takes approximately 2-4 months to file a bankruptcy from the date you hire Chang & Diamond. The time it takes to prepare and file your case is really dependent upon how prepared, motivated and invested you are in the process. We will do all that we can to assist you in filing your case quickly.
8. How will you update me with the status of my case?
You will be very involved in the preparation of your case. Our Attorneys, Paralegals and Case Assistants will be in regular contact with you via phone, email and mail. We are always accessible to you also.
9. Do you have any pending bar complaints? Have you ever had any punishable bar complaints?
NO! Our office has no pending bar complaints. Chang & Diamond has never had to face bar discipline in any jurisdiction in which they are licensed.
10. What do I tell creditors who call me?
After you hire Chang & Diamond, we invite you to have your creditors contact our firm. We will advise them that you are our clients. Keep in mind, creditors are not required to stop contacting you until after your case is filed. However, if you tell creditors to call your attorneys, most of them will extend the courtesy of collections phone calls to us!
